Oaky Creek Coal Mine: Location, Operator and Contractor Guide

Oaky Creek Coal is near the township of Tieri, QLD, in the central Bowen Basin. Tieri itself is a mining town, largely built to service the Oaky Creek complex. Access is via sealed roads off the Gregory Highway.

Oaky Creek is operated by Glencore, with a small joint-venture partner interest. It sits within Glencore's Australian coal portfolio alongside Collinsville, Newlands, Rolleston and various NSW operations.

Oaky Creek produces hard coking coal from the Oaky North underground longwall operation. Coal is processed on-site and railed via the Blackwater rail system to the Port of Gladstone (RG Tanna Coal Terminal and Wiggins Island).

Oaky Creek's workforce is largely based in the residential mining town of Tieri, with additional FIFO/DIDO contractors from Emerald, Rockhampton and Mackay. The town provides schools, retail and community facilities specifically for the workforce.

Contractors need Glencore prequalification (typically Avetta / Rapid Global / Cm3), Glencore generic + Oaky Creek site-specific induction, current standard 11 underground modules, coal board medical, and specialist underground tickets where relevant.

Regular scopes include longwall move campaigns, gas drainage, conveyor and belt maintenance, electrical, ventilation, CHPP maintenance and specialist underground shutdowns. Underground longwall moves are among the most complex contractor campaigns in Australian coal.
