South Australian Exploration & Mining Conference (SAEMC) 2026: Dates, Fees and Contractor Guide

SAEMC is an annual, one-day collaborative conference that brings South Australia's exploration and mining industries together in Adelaide. It gives active mineral explorers and miners a platform to present succinct technical updates on their flagship South Australian mines and exploration projects. 2026 marks its 23rd year. It is a technical, project-first event — short presentations, real drill results and real project status, rather than a trade show.

SAEMC 2026 is held on Friday 4 December 2026 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, North Terrace, Adelaide. Presentations, catering breaks and sponsor displays run in Halls F and G. The easiest access is via the western entrance off North Terrace, with the North Terrace Car Park adjacent. Adelaide Railway Station and a taxi ramp are on the doorstep, and Adelaide Airport is about seven kilometres away.

Registration fees are deliberately kept low to encourage broad attendance. Indicative 2026 pricing is $295 early bird (1 August – 30 September), $385 standard (1 October – 2 December), $500 late (3–4 December) and $30 for students, all GST inclusive. Registrations are available on the day online, and full refunds are processed automatically up to seven days before the event. Confirm final fees and dates on the official SAEMC site before booking.

SAEMC is run by a voluntary committee representing the local branches of AIG, ASEG, AusIMM, GSA and AMEC, with representatives from the South Australian Department of Energy and Mining (DEM) and the University of Adelaide also on the committee. Any modest surplus from the conference is reinvested into student-related activities in the local professional associations — which is why the student ticket sits at $30.

The program is organised around four presentation streams: exploration projects, feasibility and development projects, near-mine exploration, and mining operations. Talks are short and technical — geology, drilling results, resource updates and project timelines. Catering breaks double as the networking and display time, with sponsor tables in the same halls as the presentations, so there is no separate exhibition floor to get lost on.

South Australia carries an unusually broad endowment: copper in the Gawler Craton and Olympic Dam province, iron ore in the Middleback Ranges, gold, graphite, mineral sands, uranium and a growing critical-minerals pipeline. Government exploration initiatives and the copper-growth agenda keep drilling activity high, and copper's role in electrification means near-mine and greenfields programs in SA are being funded through cycles that would have stalled a decade ago.

SAEMC is the cheapest way in Australia to hear an entire state's project pipeline in one day. Every feasibility study presented is a future earthworks, drilling, fabrication, maintenance or camp services package. Explorers who have just funded a program need drillers, field support, logistics and compliance help within months. If you supply into South Australian mining, the room contains the people who will scope that work, sitting still, for one day.

Once a project moves from exploration to development, prequalification tightens fast. Expect requests for worker competencies and site inductions, plant and equipment registers with current service and inspection history, lifting gear and pressure equipment certification, pre-start and defect records, isolation and permit documentation, SWMS, insurances and incident reporting with documented close-out. Most contractors can do the work. Fewer can produce the evidence the day it is asked for.

It is a single Friday — plan it properly. Read the presenter list in advance and mark the feasibility and near-mine talks, because that is where imminent work sits. Send someone who can answer scope and capability questions on the spot. Use the catering breaks rather than the presentations for conversations, and ask each company who runs their contractor prequalification and what system they use. Follow up within seven days referencing their specific project, not a generic capability statement.

4 December places SAEMC at the very end of the conference year, after IMARC (27-29 October, Sydney), MESC WA and AusIMM Strategic Mine Planning (17-19 November, Perth), MERC (27-29 November, Perth) and the Australian Tunnelling Conference (25-26 November, Sydney). That timing is useful: budgets for the following year are largely set, so what companies present in December is a reliable signal of what they will actually tender in the first half of 2027.
