Stanmore Resources: Mines, ASX Listing and Contractor Access

Stanmore Resources Limited (ASX:SMR) is an ASX-listed pure-play metallurgical coal producer headquartered in Brisbane. In 2022 Stanmore transformed its portfolio by acquiring BHP's 80% interest in BHP Mitsubishi Coal (BMC) — bringing South Walker Creek and Poitrel into the group and making Stanmore one of the largest independent met-coal producers in Australia.

South Walker Creek is a large open-cut PCI/metallurgical coal operation in the northern Bowen Basin, north-west of Nebo. It's a major contractor employer for overburden removal, mobile plant maintenance, coal handling and shutdowns.

Poitrel is a large open-cut hard coking coal operation in the northern Bowen Basin, near the Broadmeadow and Peak Downs area. Like South Walker Creek, it uses a substantial contractor base across mining services and maintenance.

The Isaac Plains Complex — including Isaac Plains East and Isaac Plains Underground — is another Stanmore Bowen Basin operation producing metallurgical coal, near Moranbah.

Contractor engagement follows Tier-1 industry norms: vendor prequalification, site-specific inductions, mining tickets, coal board medicals and compliance system enrolment. Access to each site is managed via the Site Access Centre or MIA at the mine gate.

Watch for: continued optimisation of the former BMC operations under Stanmore ownership, updates to shutdown campaigns at South Walker Creek and Poitrel, and progress on the Millennium and Mavis Downs projects, which could create additional contractor opportunities.
