Australian Mining Prospect Awards 2026: Full Finalist List, Dates and What Contractors Need to Know

The Australian Mining Prospect Awards are the only national awards program dedicated to the Australian mining and minerals processing industry. Run by Prime Creative Media, publisher of Australian Mining, the program has run for more than a decade and recognises the people, projects, sites and innovations pushing the sector forward — from autonomous haulage rollouts through to safety advocates and contractors.

The 2026 gala is on Wednesday 16 September 2026 at Fraser's Kings Park, Perth. Arrival and networking start at 7:00pm, with the awards presentation from 7:30pm. Dress code is black tie. 2026 marks a move from Adelaide to Perth, putting the night in the heart of Australia's largest mining workforce.

Nominations and submissions opened 26 May and closed 26 June 2026. Finalists were announced on 27 July 2026, and the ceremony is 16 September 2026. If you missed the 2026 window, put a reminder in your calendar for May 2027 — the submission period is short and the strongest entries are the ones drafted well before it opens.

The 2026 program expanded its categories to reflect where the industry is heading — autonomy, digital transformation, rehabilitation and closure, and FIFO workforce experience now sit alongside the long-running safety, leadership and contractor awards. Finalists across all 19 nominated categories were announced on 27 July 2026 — see the full finalist list below. Australian Mine of the Year is judged separately and is not open for nomination.

Mining Contractor of the Year is one of the few national platforms where service businesses are judged on the same stage as the miners they work for. For contractors, a finalist listing is procurement currency: it is third-party evidence of safety performance, delivery capability and innovation that you can put straight into a prequalification pack, a tender response or a capability statement. Even without a win, the finalist announcement in Australian Mining puts your name in front of the exact audience that awards your next scope.

Judges reward evidence, not adjectives. Anchor the submission to one project with a clear before-and-after: the problem, what you changed, and the measured result — TRIFR movement, downtime hours avoided, tonnes recovered, dollars saved, training hours delivered. Include client endorsement from the site you delivered for, quantify safety and compliance performance, and show the systems behind the result (how you evidence competencies, inductions, prestarts and close-outs). Vague claims about 'a strong safety culture' lose to a chart with a date axis.

For the 2026 awards, individual tickets are listed at $363 and a table of 10 at $3,388 through the official Prospect Awards site. A table is usually the better play for contractors: seat a mix of your own leadership and two or three client contacts, and you have three hours of relaxed conversation with people who are otherwise near-impossible to get in a room.

It is a networking evening dressed as an awards ceremony. Confirm who is attending from your key accounts beforehand, know which categories your clients are shortlisted in and congratulate them specifically, and skip the pitch — ask what is coming to market in the next 12 months and who holds the head contract. Follow up within 48 hours with something useful, not a brochure. If you are a finalist, have a one-page summary of the winning project ready to hand over.

16 September 2026 is a busy day in the resources calendar — the WA Mining Conference & Exhibition runs 16–17 September at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, and the BULK Handling Technical Conference & Expo runs the same two days in Melbourne.
