What is the RIU Resources Investor Roadshow?
The RIU Resources Investor Roadshow is a one-day investor conference where ASX-listed resources companies present and exhibit in front of the east coast investment community. It is run by RIU Conferences / Vertical Events, the Subiaco-based organiser behind the RIU Explorers Conference in Fremantle and the RIU Sydney Resources Round-up. It is an in-person, face-to-face event — not a webinar series.
When and where in 2026
The 2026 roadshow runs in two cities: Melbourne on Tuesday 25 August 2026 at the Sofitel on Collins, and Sydney on Thursday 27 August 2026 at the Swissotel. Presenting companies participate in one or both cities. Registration includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea, and the networking drinks function at the end of the day.
Who is actually in the room
The audience is deliberately investment-side: institutional investors, fund managers, stockbrokers, private and professional investors, media and investor relations professionals. On stage are the managing directors and CEOs of ASX-listed explorers, developers and producers, pitching their project pipeline. It is a capital-markets room, not a procurement room — and that is precisely what makes it useful intelligence.
Who gets in free — and who doesn't
Delegate passes are free for retirees, professional investors, brokers, fund managers, media and IR who are not employed by or providing services to the resources industry. If you are a director, geologist, engineer, consultant, contractor or service provider, you do not qualify for the free pass — you register through Vertical Events on paid delegate, exhibitor or sponsor terms. Don't turn up assuming a free ticket.
What gets presented
Expect 15–20 minute company presentations across gold, copper, lithium and battery minerals, rare earths, uranium, iron ore and energy — from grassroots explorers through to near-term developers and small-cap producers. Each pitch covers the resource, drilling results, funding position, permitting status and the timeline to first production or the next milestone.
Why a mining contractor should care about an investor event
Because funded projects become work fronts. Every company on that stage is telling a room full of investors when it expects to raise, drill, build and mine. That is a free, structured forecast of who will be tendering earthworks, drilling support, fabrication, camp services, maintenance and mobile plant hire in the next 12–24 months — long before anything hits a tender portal.
How to use the roadshow as a business development tool
Build a watchlist from the presenting company list. Sort it by three things: commodity, project location relative to your crews, and funding status. A developer with cash in the bank and permits approved is worth a call this quarter. An explorer three drill programs from a decision is worth a relationship, not a proposal. Track announcements after the roadshow — capital raises and definitive feasibility studies are your trigger events.
How it compares with other resources events
QME in Mackay is a machinery and supplier trade show. NT Resources Week puts operators, government and contractors in one room. Diggers & Dealers in Kalgoorlie mixes investors and operators over three days. The RIU Resources Investor Roadshow is narrower and cheaper on time: one day, one city, pure company-to-investor pitching. Use the trade shows to sell; use the roadshow to see what is coming.
Questions worth asking presenting companies
If you get face time in the exhibition area, ask about execution rather than geology: when does the next drill campaign start, who manages contractor prequalification, is site work packaged or delivered by a head contractor, what does the mobilisation window look like, and what compliance evidence they expect from service providers. Those answers tell you whether you are 6 months or 3 years away from a scope.
The other RIU conferences worth knowing
Vertical Events runs a full calendar: the roadshow in Melbourne and Sydney in August, Perth events in September, Busselton in late October, the RIU Explorers Conference in Fremantle each February, and the Sydney Resources Round-up in May. If you service exploration and development clients, the Fremantle Explorers Conference is usually the highest-density room of junior resource companies in the country.
