What Is the Resource Industry Network? A Guide for Bowen Basin Mining Businesses

Resource Industry Network (RIN) is a member-based, not-for-profit industry association headquartered in Mackay, Central Queensland. It represents organisations working across the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday (MIW) and Bowen Basin regions in the mining equipment, technology and services (METS), minerals, energy and resources sector — along with the businesses allied to it. RIN describes itself as the only not-for-profit membership group focused specifically on the resource services sector and allied industries within the Bowen and Galilee Basins. Its stated purpose is to build a prosperous, resilient regional community by leveraging the collective capability of the sector's supply chain.

RIN organises its work around three things: connect, develop and promote. Connect means genuine access to decision-makers — miners, terminals, principal contractors, councils and government — through briefings, events and committees. Develop means capability building: training, mentoring through the Mackay Mentoring Network, export and market-entry programs, and regional supply chain studies. Promote means visibility: member listings, the METS HQ capability platform, communications support to get member success stories in front of buyers, and advocacy on issues such as coal royalties, energy transition, and local content in procurement.

In the Bowen Basin, work moves on relationships and prequalification. RIN sits directly at that intersection. For a maintenance contractor, workshop, manufacturer or labour provider, membership gives you: proximity to the buyers who let shutdown, maintenance and supply scopes; early signal on projects, policy and shutdown cycles through briefings and the member eNewsletter; credibility that a regional buyer recognises, because RIN is the local peak body rather than a distant national association; and a collective voice on issues no single small business can shift alone. It is also one of the few forums where a 12-person Mackay engineering business and a tier-one miner are in the same room, at the same tables.

Membership is priced annually by headcount, with monthly or quarterly credit card payment available (minimum 12 months). Level A — $540 ex GST (1–2 employees, board discretion: family-owned or sole operator, single location in the MIW region, not part of a larger franchise, parent company or trust). Level B — $1,150 ex GST (3–20 employees). Level C — $1,990 ex GST (21–49 employees). Level D — $2,500 ex GST (50–199 employees). Level E — $3,145 ex GST (200+ employees). New members are introduced at their first Industry Briefing, featured in the next eNewsletter and welcomed across RIN's social channels. Members also get access to the Member Directory, guest speaker presentations, the ability to publish an exclusive member offer, seats on working committees such as Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Career Opportunity, Equity & Diversity (COED), and invitations to ministerial roundtables.

Treat the first year as building a track record in front of the same audience, not as buying a logo.
