RIN Awards 2026: Finalists, Categories and Event Information

The RIN Awards are the annual business excellence awards run by Resource Industry Network (RIN), the Mackay-based industry body representing the mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sector across the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday and Bowen Basin regions. Unlike national programs that centre on miners and projects, the RIN Awards recognise the supply chain — the maintenance contractors, manufacturers, workshops, labour providers and service businesses that keep Central Queensland's coal and resources operations running.

The 2026 RIN Awards Gala Dinner is on Friday 4 September 2026 at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC). It is a milestone year: 2026 marks 25 years of Resource Industry Network. The evening brings together more than 250 industry representatives for award presentations, premium dining and live entertainment. Ausgroup Industrial Services is the Major Partner and Mackay Regional Council is a Silver Partner for 2026.

The 2026 program recognises excellence across seven categories: Safety Foremost Award (sustained safety performance and a culture covering physical safety and mental wellbeing), Champion Culture Award (engaging people to build a stronger workplace culture), Connecting in the Community Award (meaningful community engagement and partnerships), Expansion into New Markets Award (diversification into new products, services, markets or supply chain opportunities), Manufacturing Excellence Award (innovation, quality, performance and continuous improvement in manufacturing), Standing out from the Crowd Award (an outstanding individual showing leadership, dedication and resilience) and The Tony Britton Award (an individual showing outstanding leadership and support for the wider resource services sector and community).

Yes. Resource Industry Network has announced the 2026 finalists across six judged categories — see the full finalist list below. The Tony Britton Award is different: it is adjudicated by the RIN Board and the recipient is revealed live on the night, so there is no published shortlist for that category. Winners in all other categories are announced at the gala dinner on 4 September 2026.

For a Mackay or Bowen Basin service business, a RIN Awards finalist listing is procurement currency. It is independent, publicly verifiable recognition from the region's own industry body — the same body whose members include the tier-one miners, terminals and principal contractors that award your next scope. A finalist mention slots straight into a prequalification pack, tender response or capability statement, and it carries weight locally in a way a national award sometimes does not. Safety Foremost in particular is a signal that your safety system is real and reportable, not aspirational.

Judges reward evidence over adjectives. Anchor each submission to a defined period and a measurable change: TRIFR and near-miss trends, hazard reports actioned and closed out, training and competency currency, downtime hours avoided, units manufactured, new clients or markets won, dollars of local spend. Include client endorsement from the site you delivered for, and show the systems behind the result — how you evidence inductions, licences, medicals, prestarts, JHAs and corrective actions. If the numbers have to be reconstructed from spreadsheets and paper dockets at submission time, that is the real finding.

Tickets for the 2026 gala dinner are on sale now through Resource Industry Network, and the milestone 25-year edition is expected to draw strong attendance. A table is generally the better option for a contractor: seat your leadership group alongside two or three client contacts and you get an evening of relaxed conversation with people who are otherwise hard to reach. It is a networking evening wearing an awards ceremony's clothes. Before you go, check which categories your key clients and competitors are shortlisted in and congratulate them specifically. Skip the pitch — ask what scopes are coming to market over the next 12 months, which shutdowns are locked in, and who is holding the head contract. Follow up within 48 hours with something useful rather than a brochure. If you are a finalist, have a one-page summary of the project behind your nomination ready to hand over.
